Farm Safety

An eight week Farm Safety program, run in partnership with local schools and farming organisations, aims to reduce the incidence of farm injury in our small rural area. Nanna Maz, Farmer Bill and Lucy the Farm Dog assist children to increase their awareness to the potential hazards on farms.

Operating from Rokewood Community Health Service, the program has been running since 1994 and continues to grow. Students from twelve local primary schools across three local government areas have participated. The program forms part of Hesse’s Health Promotion Plan under the key priority area of injury prevention. Key safety and injury prevention messages are delivered to local children and their farming families.

In 2009 the Farm Safety Program was presented to the National Farm Health & Safety Conference in Perth and, in 2010, was delivered to the inaugural Farmer Health Conference.
